Why not to use Wix to design your website…
This week I’ve finished building a brand new site for a client. You can read all about Angela’s success story here. (link to School of beauty success story)
Angela had an existing Wix site, but had to start again from fresh with a new ecommerce website built on WordPress
It’s my third rebuild this year.
This one was particularly noteworthy as they’ve only had the Wix website for 6 months.
They wanted to add extra functions to their website.
Wix Websites aren’t futureproof
You can add a basic layout, and static text but you can’t add the features you want using the Wix builder, it’s just too limited.
If you want booking websites, ecommerce functionality, or anything beyond basic information websites, avoid Wix.
Wix websites aren’t affordable or cost-effective
It might easy to build a cheap website on Wix, but it isn’t affordable:
your Wix website will only take you so far and when you want to add advanced functionality or do digital marketing you’ll end up starting all over again.
Do it right the first time
5 signs it’s time to move on from a Wix website
As you probably know Wix is a hugely popular website-building platform, that makes it simple to own your own little space on the web. However some of the factors that make Wix great are also some of their biggest downfalls for a growing business. As an entrepreneur who is ready to supercharge their business, the simplicity of Wix means it will be harder for your business to not just perform the way you want it to but also to function the way you need it to.
Here are 5 reasons why you need to step away from Wix and invest in the best web designers and developers.
1. You want your site to perform better on search engines
Now this is a big one. SEO should be at the forefront of your mind when building a website and it should be seamlessly woven throughout the whole site to ensure optimised performance. It has only been in the past few years that Wix has really made attempts to up their SEO-friendly game, but there’s still a long way to go. Firstly, you are limited to the SEO options that Wix offers and you can not add an SEO plug-in. By diving deeper into their page source structure, you’ll see that it is messy and really not set up to rank on a search engine by itself at all.
Keep in mind that your site is there to be found and utilised so search engine optimization is an invaluable tool. By using a Wix website you are limiting your traffic and therefore potential customers. Now even if you have great marketing tricks that work amazingly, do you really want to miss out on the further organic reach that a well performing website can obtain purely from SEO? No, of course you don’t!
2. You need more support
Support is vital for growing and developing a business. A huge company like Wix can not offer the bespoke advice, creativity and backing that you and your business would benefit from. Trustpilot found that user experience shows support from Wix to be unsatisfactory and they have a real lack of live support too. If you opt for a small business web designer you will get one-to-one support. You will be dealing with real people who are invested in your business and how it grows. They can advise and steer your website in the best direction whilst having open conversations about direction, planning and vision. At Design Hero we pride ourselves on being pretty normal people! Maybe it sounds like an unusual selling point but it can be rare to find the best web designers who also speak human! We are confident you’ll find it straightforward to work alongside us.
3. You want to own your own site
When you sign up for Wix, you are signing up to a subscription service from their platform. Their terms and conditions give Wix the ability to modify your site and your site content. Basically, you are not fully buying the website. Owning a website and having full ownership and control is crucial for a growing, thriving business. If ever Wix was to take down their platform, go bankrupt or just shut down; you’d be left with not many options. You sign up to a rigid agreement and only this particular CMS can host your site. Additionally if Wix decide to change their business model you’ll just have to go along with whatever they decide to do in order to keep your website. Building a beautiful, well-functioning site is crucial for a business. However doing it via Wix leaves you vulnerable and restricted.
4. You were initially drawn in by the low price point
A factor that often draws a lot of people onto Wix is how affordable it is. It even boasts an understandably appealing free plan. However, the free plan includes Wix branding plastered all over your site and domain whilst your functionality is very limited- so in fact it is far from ideal. Upgrading to the premium plan will unlock more features and is still reasonably priced however it is similar to the price of other hosting sites, which come without the other downsides of Wix. It is important to budget wisely whilst running a business and it is understandable that you would want to save where possible. However saving on your website could leave you with a poorly functioning site and an uncertain future. By investing in your own (100% your own!) high performing professional website you are spending money wisely.
5. You’ve outgrown your site
A common problem with a Wix site is outgrowing it. The simple plans and straightforward design is initially appealing to people- as we already discussed! However this leaves people with a website that is unable to grow and evolve at the same speed as the business. If you want to change your plan, upgrade to more complex functionalities or you are looking to add google analytic tracking, it will either be very expensive and confusing or just simply not possible and none of those options are good, are they? Design Hero will be your website go-to, who you can discuss your concerns and ideas for your website. We’ll help you get your website one step ahead of where you think it needs to be so that you are always putting your best foot forward with your customers.
We understand why you’d opt for Wix if a website is just another thing to tick off the to-do list. However we strongly believe (and know!) that a website is worth a whole lot more than that. Home your business in a professional and sleek online space. Show your customers the standard you keep for your business and why they should want a part of it.
