During the recent COVID-19 crisis, high street shopping has taken a pounding, while online delivery businesses are booming.
For those isolated at home, deliveries of products, goods and services have become a lifeline.
Inverclyde Home Fresh is one of these lifeline businesses,Β delivering fresh fruit and veg produce across Inverclyde including Greenock, Gourock, Inverkip, Kilmacolm, and even parts of Argyll.
The Greenock Telegraph reports on Home Fresh Inverclyde’s explosive growth:
In the last few years, Jordan’s business has grown exponentially, and during the COVID-19 crisis his business has become even more important for those isolated at home.
Many of Jordan’s customers are elderly, who are especially isolated as many have reduced mobility and public transport is at high risk of infection for COVID-1. This means more of the ageing population are venturing online than ever before.
Jordan asked Design Hero to help develop his website in greenock to improve the service he offered his customers.
Things on the web move fast and it can be hard to keep up. Web design accessibility best practices are essential to help Jordan’s customers place orders as easily as possible.
Design hero has helped Home Fresh Inverclyde with website development to make selling online as simple and streamlined as possible so that Jordan’s customers have the most accessible website possible. Home Fresh Inverclyde has now successfully improved the offering from the website and made the user experience easier for all his customers.
Jordan’s customers can buy their products online via the newly designed e-commerce website for Inverclyde Home Fresh which now supports a number of online payment options to make the online purchase process as seamless as possible.
“This is a last lifeline for people. People who can’t get out and about at all can’t wait for weeks for a supermarket delivery slot, so they’re looking to local businesses. All the traffic from supermarkets is now going to local businesses, which is great. It’s good to see people doing well but it’s a horrible situation.”
Jordan O’Neill, Home Fresh Inverclyde.
Jordan drives across Inverclyde and Argyll to deliver fresh produce and essential items such as adheres to COVID-19 health and safety regulations, knocking the door, leaving a wee dish to collect cash, and standing several steps back.
Jordan and the team are planning to add a list of essential items – like teabags and coffee – to their website so that people can order these too.
Jordan added: “It’s been non-stop.
“I’ve been working from 2.30am until 10pm sometimes.
“I really hope that the new customers who have chosen to use the business will come back when things start to go back to normal.”
As well as improvements across the board for Inverclyde Home Fresh’s customers,
I’ve also made a number of website developments to make Jordan’s life easier in managing the E-commerce website and to automate the admin for the business and for the delivery team.
Now his customers have improved access to fresh produce and Jordan’s life is easier for managing orders:
Our web developers created a new table-based layout on Jordan’s e-commerce website for a much quicker shopping- users can quickly add products to the basket without needing to visit multiple pages and view all products on one page.
Our web developers made sure users on Jordan’s online shop can now view all products on one page and add multiple products at a time. They can now even order in bulk or half portions.
Users can find and filter categories in real time to find the products they need
They can even search for specific products without ever leaving the shopping page.
Our e-commerce web developers have designed a sticky cart so users can visit the checkout at any time from a sticky mini cart.
Jordan’s business customers can now sign up to request a wholesale account on his e-commerce store. Wholesale customers can pay later via invoice, once products have been picked and selected at local market prices
I added a wishlist functionality to the E-Commerce website, to allow customers to save their repeating grocery list orders from each week, and update it if needed to make repeat orders easier.
I helped Jordan reduce his admin time through web development to add extra functionality to the site: the site now allows for dynamic pricing, and different delivery costs depending where the customer orders from. This saves Jordan from manually calling the customer to organize payment and delivery and allows his business to scale!
I also updated the website with various visual tweaks to make the site easier to navigate and use for his many elderly customers, who sometimes struggle with technology. This include a raft of UX improvements for accessibility sch as updating buttons, refining colors and fonts for increased legibility.
As well as the front end improvements to this E-Commerce website in Inverclyde, I also made Jordan’s life a lot easier by automating order invoices, adding custom order emails, and allowing him to print delivery sheets from the backend of the site. This has saved Jordan’s staff hours in the delivery process.
Nick has gone over and above to meet my goals set on my website. Not only has he helped with my website but has helped me with ideas to make it more user friendly for our customers. Very pleasant to deal with, answers his phone or if busy always contacts me back that day.
